This year, being in Kindergarten, Jaxon is learning to read, write, and spell. He's really having fun doing it, and often has a pen and paper writing words, etc. So he's really having fun spelling, and one day he's spelling words and he's really proud of himself. "Mom, I can spell, he says. Apple, a-p-l. Lamb, l-a-m. I thought, well, that's how they sound. I didn't have the heart to tell him that apple has two p's, and an e on the end. Or that lamb has a b on the end of it. How do you even explain that to him?? And then I'm thinking, "who made up this English language???" It really makes no sense, or does it and I've just forgotten all the rules?? I've never learned another language to any degree that I can actually speak it, but are they as complicated as ours?? Do they have a bunch of silent letters in them that confuse kindergartners?

All my kids started spelling like that and when they ask "why is that e silent?" I thought to myself..."good question, why?" Now my kids just ask spell check!
(that is a very cute picture of him)
I have heard that English is one of the most difficult to learn and master. I am a case in point...I struggle with it almost on a daily basis.
